Morning Dance

This poem is sort of a test. I wanted to make sure I could still write a grownup poem and be brave enough to put it out there. It rough in places, and is a rough draft, and it is not sweet like the Egret stories. But it is what it is.

We met after coffee

but I knew it would be you that woke me.

Although still dark it was on the verge of sunrise

and the shadows and light made your beauty come alive.

As always at first, I took the lead

Letting my arrogance get in front of me.

Moving to fast we were out of sync

You were patient as always till I found the beat.

I explored every contour as I weaved in and out

My breathing to hurried and and I started to doubt.

So I let you take the lead like I usually do

not ready for our dance to yet be through.

I heard your sounds, so gentle and sweet.

Inspired I took back the lead, and I set the beat.

Faster and faster, moving with you

Breathing to fast like a vigin without a clue.

You were always wiser than I

I thought to myself as the sun crest the sky

The smell in the air was palpable as our temperatures were rising.

Sweat and nature mixed, expected yet surprising.

But then you brought me to that hill, you know the one.

and I gave you the lead becuase of thoughts of self doubt.

But I wouldn’t give in, I would take back control.

I pushed my way up while feeling you under me.

Lost in endorphins, but on my way home.

Five miles down but four more to go.

——-

It was a beautiful morning for a run
