Today when driving to work I was feeling a little sluggish. Nothing horrible mind you, just a bit tired. I have a pretty long commute the 3 days I am still working at my current job. Most of the time driving is spent clearing the traffic past Tyson’s Corner and/or 66. As I said I was feeling tired but not dead on my feet exhausted. Anyway well past the traffic I suddenly had a hard time keeping my eyes open.
I’m traveling at highway speeds and the next thing I know, I am dreaming. I have no idea how long I was out, but I was well in dream land when I heard a voice in my head say “wake up your driving.” I did, right before I was about to smash nearly head on into a concrete road divider at 60ish. Someone how I managed to swerve and not hit the concrete roadblock or another car. Needless to say, adrenaline kept me awake for the reminder of the trip.
I don’t know what happened on so many levels. I have never fallen asleep behind the wheel. I had a full night sleep and at least one cup of coffee before I left. I haven’t had any recent medication changes. I’m shocked I managed to avoid an accident coming out of a sleep/dream state. The weirdest part was the voice that woke me didn’t sound like my own.
I was running late so I didn’t take a to-go cup for the road, but that is certainly not the first time that has happen. I’m just grateful I didn’t kill myself or anyone else.

Wow. That’s damn scary. Glad you are OK. Wonder what happened?
I’ve driven through Tysons Corner – it’s pretty bad. I wasn’t even there during rush hour.

Glad you’re okay. I’ve never fallen asleep at the wheel, but I have occasionally daydreamed.
