Best selling Author Diane Capri tagged me in a post called the The Next Big Thing — Part Two — Name That Book!
The premise is simple. Answer 10 questions about your Work in Progress (WiP). Link back to the author that tagged you. Tag 5 more authors to participate.
1: What is the working title of my latest book?
I’m not counting my Egret series since I have four that have been written for awhile and just need to be edited and illustrated. So I don’t have a beginning title for my current WiP ****** an Alex Kagan Book
2: What is the book about?
Detective Alex Kagan is smart and pretty. She grew up in a wealthy Orthodox Jewish home but isn’t particularly religious herself. But soon she will find herself with a talent for and immersed in the world of Kabbalah. Please follow https://www.facebook.com/AlexKaganBooks for tidbits about the story, Kabbalah and my imaginings of the secrets of Practical Kabbalah
3: What genre does your book come under?
I would call it Urban Fantasy. It is set in Modern Day Washington, DC. I will also be taking great liberties with Jewish Mysticism and practical Magick
4: What do you love about this story?
Growing up there were plenty of fantasy stories with other religions both ancient and modern. There was however very little Jewish Fantasy. I also have a little crush on Alex. Beautiful with a brilliant mind, and quite a person, inside and out.
5: What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
Alex hunts for the killer of her grandfather, all the while learning the art and science of practical Kabbalah.
6: Is your book self-published, published by an independent publisher, or represented by an agency?
Indie and proud of it. Never queried and agent or a publisher for my books and have no desire to now.
7: How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
Still in the works.
8: What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
I can’t think of another book, but I can say Alex Kagan reminds me a bit of Rachel Morgan in the Hallows series. Or Joanne Walker in the Walker Papers
9: Who or what inspired you to write this book?
Parts have been in my head for years. My children’s book has been fairly successful and I thought is was time to bring some more Jewish Fantasy into the world.
10: What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
Smart and strong woman and Jewish Magick

I’m reallllllly looking forward to the finished product – I haven’t spent a lot of time with any Jewish people, but a few years ago I started reading Faye Kellerman’s Rina Lazarus/Peter Decker series of books and I’ve learned a bit about the faith – so interesting! I can’t wait to read yours!

Thanks Shannon. When it comes to the standard Jewish traditions I will keep it a real as I know myself (and might learn something along the way) but when it comes from to the Practical Kabbalah/Magic, lots will just be from my own imaginings.

Ooo that sounds really interesting. I really like detective stories so that aspect of it really appeals to me. I’m not Jewish (or particularly interested in religion) but I think having this general detective story with the underlying history of Kabbalah is a great way to get people with interests in both.

This will more be a supernatural detective story that a history of Kabbalah. I mean I will use some real kabbalah but most of the magick stuff will either be rumor or out right fiction.
